I had seen adverts for this programme. It looked interesting, but it was on channel Living. I know that any guy reading this will probably refer to Living as a woman interest TV channel, and I would have to agree with them. However, this particular programme looked like something new and different.
Let’s be honest here. Reality TV programmes are everywhere. You just can’t escape them. Some of them good, but a lot of them are bad. From people trying to impress judges for a record deal ( this format is one of the better reality TV ideas), to people seating around all day, doing stupid tasks to see who can make the biggest idiot of themselves (Hmmm I wonder if that programme sounds familiar to any one).
Dating in the dark is something different, and is not a reality concept I had heard of before. The show is based on dating with a difference. True there have been many dating shows in the past and Blind date in its day was king (Or queen depending on how you want to look at it).
On Dating in the dark, contestants go on a dates with each other and are in the dark about the person’s appearance – literately. The each contestant goes on a series of dates with three members of the opposite gender in order to find out who they are most compatible with.

The three female contestants

Once the dates are over the men and women seat in their separate bases (e.g. men only, women only) and watch a giant screen to find out the compatibility results.
Once that they receive the results they then have to engage a series of dates with the person from their compatibility result in the dark.
Yes in the dark. You read that correct. The room which the dates take place are so dark that the contestants struggle to get in and out of the room. At the end of the dates each contestant goes back to their base where they give a description of what they think their date looks like to a professional artist who draws a picture.
This picture is then given to the other person, so that they can see what their dates think they look like.
After that the contestants then go back into the dark room where a spot light will be shone on their date to show their physical appearance (The spot goes on the woman first, then the man).
Once both parties have seen what the other looks like, they then have to make a decision as to whether they want to go on other proper date with the person they had been paired with or walk away.
On this premier episode of the show there were six contestants: three women and three men. I think this programme was highly entertaining and cruel at the same time.

Can you imagine how much better the Spider man movies would have been if James Cameron had directed them? I kid you not. No offence Sam Raimi you tried your best, but you are no James Cameron.

Cameron had ideas about a Spider-man film since the later 80’s.

What the hell happened? I will tell you.

He was working with a production company called Carolco to develop it the film. However the Carolco went bust and sold all the assets. A truly tragic day in film. :-(

Walking with dinosaurs

I have always been a fan of dinosaurs, so when I heard that the ‘Walking with dinosaurs’ arena spectacular was coming to town, it was a must see event.

The event itself was spectacular. There were lifelike models of dinosaur’s that moved and roared like they did 65 million years ago. I felt like I was Doctor Who going back in time.

There were a large number of children in the audience – some of whom had dinosaur toys and hats. They all looked extremely happy at the fact that they were about to see dinosaurs.

The narrator presenting the show was very good. He had so much enthusiasm about what he was talking about. He talked about the different periods of time when dinosaurs roamed the earth - Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous.

I felt that the content of the show was very good, although I doubt any of the younger audience actually understood what the hell was going on, other than seeing a dinosaur.

The star of the show was the T- Rex. Actually there were two T-Rex’s (mother and baby). There was no better way to end the show than with the most famous dinosaur of them all.

Overall this was an excellent show; one I would recommend to any one either interested in dinosaurs, or is looking for an evening out with a difference.

Eddie Griffin – Undercover Brother

What can I say about this night out. I have not had so much fun for a long time.

I knew Eddie Griffin from his role in undercover brother. I had no idea the man could do stand up and do it so well.

The night was hosted by Choice FM. Richard Blackwood and a few other comedians were in the house, and I have to say that they were great down. The delivery of their punch lines was excellent. Out of the British acts Richard Blackwood was the star. This was because he did a sketche referring to people’s parents and how your parents would dance when they hear your music.

Everyone could identify with that scenario, so everyone in the audiences was in switches with laugher. Mind you this is not the kid of comedian act you could see with your parents. If you did, you would tend to feel very embarrassed pretty quickly. This is due to the sexually content within the show. The comdeians left nothing out on the subject.

There was then a fifteen minute intermission. Once that was over it was time for the star of the show - Eddie Griffin - to take the stage. His sketches and impressions were brillant. The impression of 50 cent was a classic.

Griffin really does know how to draw the audience in and then delivery the kill punch line which can have people literately in tears.

There was also a hater in the audience, who cursed Griffin regarding Griffin’s calm to meeting Richard Pryor when Griffin was starting out as a comic.

This woke up the beast within Eddie. It was observe Eddie Griffin was angry but what he did next was brilliant. For the next two minutes he used the hater as a sketch. He made so much fun out of the hater that the individual did not make another comment for the rest of the show. It was a classic moment and again had the audience roaring with laughter.

Overall this was truly a night to remember. Eddie brought the house down with his quick wit, amazing story telling and Charisma. If you get the opportunity to see this guy live grab it with both hands because it’s an experience not to be missed.

RIP Michael Jackson 1958 - 2009

To say Michael Jackson was a genius is an understatement. He was a popular music icon for the last forty five years.

From the Jackson five to Bad, his music touched generations. People who were born in the late seventies and eighties grow up on his music. He was also a pioneer in breaking down racial barriers for black music, way before Usher or Beyonce and his videos were the first MTV played on ration by any black artist. To this day, Thriller is still the biggest selling album in history. Jackson’s influence is evident in many music videos by today’s artists e.g. Justine Timberlake, Ne-Yo etc.

I use to joke that there are three things that every human being across the world has heard of: MacDonald’s, Coca Cola and Michael Jackson. He managed to create himself as a brand.

Yes, he had controversy and yes, he made many mistakes in his life, but at the end of the day like as all, he was only human. Michael Jackson may have died in the physical form on June 25 2009, but his music means he will definitely live forever.

Michael Joseph Jackson, King of pop, thanks for the entertainment, thanks for the memories but most importantly, thanks for the music and the endless joy you brought around the world.

Talib ‘Conman’ Kweli concert 10.6.2009

Well where to start with this fiasco? Hmm the beginning is always good. Having discovered that one of my favourite rap artists was in London and being a lover of hip- hop, I felt it was my duty to go and support Mr Kweli.

The credit crunch is affecting us all in different ways, and we all want to save money and still enjoy the little things, like a good night out.

Therefore being Mr. Optimist, I though going to a concert would be value for money.

The venue itself – the Camden centre - was not the greatest but I was hopeful that Kweli was going for an underground theme and would perform some of his classic tracks e.g. listen, the blast, etc.

First, two mysterious young ladies came out on stage. I thought that they were opening acts.

Then Mr.Kweli decided to come out on stage. The crowd went wild and I thought that the two ladies were backing singers.

They started singing or something of that nature and it sounded terrible. Not because they were bad singers, but because the sound equipment was awful. Clearly a sound check hadn’t been done and all the static and feedback could be heard.

Now I am a patient guy. Let these ladies have their time in the sun. The ladies performed an individual song a piece and four songs together with Kweli (I say with Kweli but all he was doing was standing by the DJ booth and acting like a hype man), I started to grow annoyed.

Then Kweli bust into life and performed his first song. The crowd started jumping - as some of them had fallen asleep.

Even though the sound equipment was a joke, Kweli still managed to move the crowd. I thought ok, now we are down to the serious business. Kweli then performed only one other song after that in-between the two female misfits dreadful performances.

Then one of the ladies said the sentence that made my head spin. ‘Ok we are going to perform one more and this song is called blah blah blah . I did not hear the song's title, as I was too busy looking at my watch. The time said 10.40. They had been on stage for 50 minutes. Kweli had performed two songs.

Once they finished performing, the live band- which were probably the best thing about the whole night, packed up, switched off their equipment and left the stage. Kweli then walked off with the two ladies.

‘This is S$&T’ a young lady behind me said. I could not have agreed more. People had come out here to support Kweli and he thanks us with this joke of a concert.

Then Kweli came out again and everyone started cheering.

Kweli then proceeded to lecture three individuals ( I couldn’t see whether they were men or women) who he believed disrespected the two young ladies - who were part of Idle worship.

Idle worship? I have paid to see a Talib Kweli concert not Idle worship.

Kweli then tried to justify the concert saying that we had all come to see Idle worship not Talib Kweli. He said that we should support his group and support him.

People were not happy about this. Kweli then said that if he performed some trucks would we – the crowd - be happy.

We said yes, so he then performed 'the blast' which got everyone going and two other trucks before leaving the stage for good this time.

Overall this night was a joke. I left the venue, looked at my concert ticket and throw it in the bin. That was a fitting home. Because this concert was rubbish.
